5 Tips To Increase Your Self-Awareness
Before you do anything else in your life, you need to know yourself.
Here are 5 tips to increase your self-awareness.
Self-awareness is the first step towards a successful life. Fortunately, there are thousands of ways to cultivate self-awareness. But what does self-awareness mean? It’s something that goes far beyond knowing your personal preferences. You need to have the ability to introspect.
It’s about knowing your motivation, your behaviour, and more importantly, why you’re behaving in a certain way. It means being fully aware of your personality (including your strengths and weaknesses), your thoughts, your beliefs and your emotions.
If you are aware of yourself, it will be easier for you to understand other people and how the rest of the world perceives you. What’s more, self-awareness brings with it an enormous advantage. It creates the opportunity to make changes in your behaviour and beliefs. As you begin to explore yourself, inevitably your thoughts and personal perception will change.
“The man who does not value himself, cannot value anything or anyone.” – [Ayn Rand]
This emotional change will alter your emotions and increase your emotional intelligence which becomes an important factor in achieving success and creating the life you want.
Self-awareness is the basis for building your identity and establishing harmonious relationships, as well as setting goals.
Ask for Feedback and Listen
This is perhaps the most difficult thing to put into practice especially if you are closed-minded or a person who does not accept the criticism that others make about you.
Remember that without correction, your weaknesses will drive you away from what you might be. Away from the best part of yourself.
Asking for feedback can be difficult, but it will help you understand more about which aspects you need to focus on both professionally and personally. This will allow you to understand how others perceive you.
Learn from Your Failure
Admitting limitations can be embarrassing and can seem like a sign of weakness. But it’s not. Each of us must be able to identify what skills and attributes we lack in order to be better in the future.
Being aware of what we need to continue learning can be a humiliating but necessary experience.
Don’t be afraid to embrace your weaknesses and learn from your failures.
Develop intuitive decision making skills
Intuition plays a significant role in the development of self-awareness. This can also lead to mistakes in the decision-making process but will help you make decisions quickly.
Intuitive decision-makers process large amounts of unstructured data and choose an instinct-based course of action.
Intuition develops by learning about ourselves and how we react to certain situations.
In every area of your life, practice self-discipline. If you want to control your desires and impulses in order to stay focused and do what needs to be done to achieve success, self-discipline becomes necessary.
Self-discipline must be nurtured and learned. Work to build your self-discipline through human diligence.
Evaluations tell you how you perceive the world, how you connect with others, how you make decisions and how emotionally resilient you are.
You will be equipped with a clear and impartial personal assessment that can help you recalibrate your self-awareness and create personal development goals that are reasonable, timely and most likely to help you succeed.
Self-awareness is a virtue that needs to be nurtured and that is fundamental to embarking on the road to success.
